Thinning the Veil Project

Thinning the Veil is an ongoing art project exploring grief and community created and curated by Kai Marigold.

Community members are invited to name and submit their own grief stories and experiences to the Thinning the Veil project. These submissions can be as simple as a name or a word connected to their grief, or they can be more extensive in their story telling. All grief is welcome, including disenfranchised grief (grief that is often not openly recognized or supported). Artist Kai Marigold takes each submission and creates an individual piece of art based on it. These art pieces take form in many mediums including photography, film, collage, poetry, dance, painting, etc. and are being curated into both a digital album and physical show. Names accompanying submissions will remain anonymous, but please note that submissions will be posted with their corresponding art piece. Submissions are accepted via linked Google form or directly emailed to thinningtheveilcommunity@gmail.com

The mission of this project is to make space for communal storytelling and grief sharing, thinning the veil both between individuals and their own grief as well as between individuals and each other, creating space for the often unspoken elements of grief. It also serves as a space for the artist Kai to connect with others in grief while processing their own through artistic practice.

Thinning the Veil is an ongoing labor of love, multiple submissions per person welcome, follow @thinningtheveilproject on Instagram for updates.
